Research and development at va-Q-tec currently is involved in an exciting project: In cooperation with the Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research (ZAE Bayern), the company is developing a high temperature vacuum super insulation for energy-intensive industries. Despite insulation and heat recovery measures, high thermal losses and thus energy losses occur during the processing of raw materials at high temperatures (200 °C to 1,000 °C).
va-Q-tec has developed a unique solution: Vacuum Insulation Panel (VIP) technology has been transferred to the high temperature range. For this purpose, a new VIP envelope on a metallic basis had to be developed. The envelope had to be kept as thin as possible to avoid thermal bridges. For a first application, the high-temperature VIPs are planned to be installed in mobile heat storage units for temperatures between 200 °C to 600 °C.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economics Affairs and Energy.
